Banana Bread So-Very-Scrumptious Sheet Cake with Brown Butter Frosting
Mouthful? Yes! And so is this cake! If you love banana bread, and if you love walnuts...
- 1 1/2 c sugar
- 1 c sour cream
- 1/2 c butter, softened
- 2 whole eggs
- 1 3/4 c bananas, mashed
- 2 t vanilla
- 2 c flour
- 1 t baking soda
- 3/4 t salt
- 1 c walnuts, chopped (If you're me, you always double the nuts in any recipe!)
BROWN BUTTER FROSTING
- 1/2 c butter
- 4 c powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 t vanilla
- 3 T milk
FOR THE CAKE
Preheat oven to 375. Goop a half sheet cake pan.
In a large bowl, combine the sugar, sour cream, butter and eggs and mix well.
Blend in the bananas and vanilla.
Add the flour, soda, salt and mix for 1 minute. Stir in the walnuts.
Spread evenly into pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes are until golden brown. Begin making the frosting right away so that you can spread it while the sake is still warm.
FOR THE FROSTING
Heat butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until boiling.
Let the butter turn slightly brown and them immediately remove from heat.
Add vanilla, sugar and milk and whisk together until smooth.
Spread onto semi-cooled cake; the frosting is easier to spread while cake is still warm.
